Plastics and MesotheliomaPlastic products surround us. Plastics are used in heavy industry, electronics, clothing, furniture, and packaging for food, beverages and cosmetics. As late as the mid-1980's, asbestos was incorporated into plastic molding compounds in order to provide desired properties, such as durability and heat resistance. Asbestos reinforced plastics were integrated into many common products, including circuit boards, arc chutes, vinyl asbestos floor tiles (VAT), handles for pots and pans, fan blades, automotive parts and roofing materials. Exposure to asbestos can cause mesothelioma and lung cancer. Who was exposed? The men who mixed raw asbestos with other ingredients to make plastic molding compound; the truck drivers who transported asbestos containing plastic molding compound and were exposed to spillage from broken bags; the mold shop employees who converted plastic molding compound into hardened plastic parts; the electricians who filed and drilled Bakelite and ebony asbestos terminal boards; and anyone else who came into contact with it. At Lipsitz & Ponterio, our attorneys bring third party lawsuits for mesothelioma and lung cancer against the companies that wrongfully failed to warn workers against the hazards of asbestos exposure. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease as a result of your exposure working with or around asbestos-containing plastic molding compound, please fill out the contact form located on this page. |
